INTRODUCTION
Cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death, and it's crucial that young people are trained in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). The “CPR/AED - Secondary” training offered by Académie Saint-Bernard is designed to equip students with vital skills to react effectively in the event of a cardiac emergency. This training also meets the CPR teaching requirement for all 3rd year high school students. Structured to provide comprehensive, hands-on learning, this training is essential to saving lives.
TRAINING GOALS
The main objective of the training is to reduce mortality and morbidity from Cardiopulmonary Arrest (C.P.A.) by training participants to intervene quickly and effectively. Students acquire skills in recognizing cardiovascular emergencies, performing Airway Clearance (ACR), and knowing how to use an AED.
More specifically, the training aims to ensure that participants are able to:
- recognize the different types of cardiovascular emergencies, including cardiac arrest and stroke;
- practice resuscitation and defibrillation techniques for adults, children and infants;
- clear obstructed airways;
- master ventilation procedures and associated techniques.
METHODOLOGY
We offer an interactive, hands-on teaching approach, combining theory and mannequin simulations. Participants are assessed through questionnaires and practical exercises. Each lesson includes videos and demonstrations to ensure thorough understanding.
In addition, through our interactive web platform, each student has personalized access to their profile on the Académie Saint-Bernard website via their personal or school e-mail address. This profile, along with our site, provides access to a range of resources, including the theories taught in class, the questionnaires required for certification, a detailed medical lexicon, and much more.

CERTIFICATION
At the end of the course, students receive a certification valid for 2 years. This certificate of achievement is the result of practical sessions at the school and multiple-choice theory exams, guaranteeing complete mastery of essential CPR skills.
Certificates, issued in PDF format, are accessible at all times on the Académie Saint-Bernard educational platform. This approach facilitates certification management and enables students to reference their success at any time.
CONCLUSION
The “CPR/AED - High School” course is an essential program for raising awareness and preparing young people to respond to cardiac emergencies.
